Everlasting Love

Now that I've dowloaded a later and much cooler version of Netscape, I'll soon have my story online.  Just wait...

I can send you the whole thing, or I can send you a chapter. Just email me at DragonGNTX@yahoo.com with something obvious in the subject box(like story request or something).

First, a little about the story: Some of the character names aren't permanent.  Like Liam Hewson.  Hewson was just the first and most fitting last name I could come up with.  I come up with these names off the top of my head.  I'll probably change them.  This is a very rough draft, although it has been revised and edited a million times, it will still have to be revised and edited a million more times before it is complete.

(Page numbers are approximate and based on ten point font size)
1. Billiards, School, and That Guy (6 pages)
2. The End of the World (3 pages)
3. The KGB (3 pages)
4. The Hitchhiker (9 pages)
5. Mike's Disastrous Night On The Town (3 pages) (This one is really good)
6. The Twin (2 pages)
(Some of the chapters are out of place in the story (like Ultraviolet). It's set much much later in the story)

Introduction
In the 1600's, a boatload of pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. Like any group of human beings, they multiplied. Many died of disease and whatnot, but many survived and many more settlers came and their numbers grew. By the 1700's, many were moving west. They came to a land and decided to ask the local natives what it was called. The natives didn't understand the language, so they just said 'tejas', which means 'friends'. They were telling the settlers that they were their friends. But the settlers thought this was the name of the place. They anglicized it to Texas. And so the land was called Texas. And people settled there.
In 1836, they became independent from Mexico and so formed the Republic of Texas. But things didn't work out. Their economy had crashed and they were millions of dollars in the hole. They negotiated with the United States. The States bought a large, northern chunk of Texas, and saved the day. (As well as their economy)
1845: Texas wanted to be a state. Through papers and treaties, they begged the States to take them under its wing. But to no avail. They (the States) wanted to keep good relations with Mexico. And they couldn't do that and annex Texas at the same time. "No way!" they said, "Like we can annex you and still be friends with Mexico. I don't think so!"
Too bad.
In 1861, the Civil War broke out. But Texas was a whole different country. They weren't involved. Presedent Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation and slavery was abolished, in the United States. But, like I said, Texas was a different country, they kept out of the Civil War and kept their slaves. Slavery was never officially ended. It just slowly faded over time. Conditions became more and more humane. Now fast-forward to the present.
The year is 1999. Slavery still exists, but the only real sign of slavery is that workers can still be bought, sold, and generally traded. But times have changed. Masters are replaced with big companies. There are office buildings where crops used to be. Shackles are replaced with cubicles. Whips with papers. The slaves live in high-rise apartments, provided by their master company. There is no hot sun beating down upon them, but instead the irritating flourescent lights. They sit in their cubicles, pounding endlessly on transparent plastic Imac keyboards.
Meanwhile, in Corporate America, there are legal secretaries, programmers, typists. They too, type endlessly on keyboards, they seem the same, but alas, these people are 'free'. Although they cannot be bought or sold or traded, they can be fired.
Thanks to Amnesty International, the slaves of Texas are just as free as Americans. Although they can be bought, sold, and traded. They can also quit. And their master companies can't do anything about it. They (the free slaves) are quickly hired by non-slave-dependent companies and do the same work as before, only with higher wages. But they can be fired. Stability or freedom. Can't have both.

Like a porcelian doll dropped on the floor, the Soviet Union has broken into a million tiny countries, except for Russia, the head. Cushioned by curly locks of nylon hair, it has remained intact and unharmed. Although the Soviet Union no longer exists, communism still reighns, and Russia is still as powerful as ever.
But they can't go on like this forever. Something's going to snap. One of these days, communism will come crashing to the ground. Its fall is very imminent. Communism can last only another five years, ten years max.

After WWII, every minority in Europe lashed out at the Nazi party. The Nazis were no longer feared, they lost their dangerous edge. Jews and gypsies laughed in their faces and ignored them. It was suddenly very politically correct to lash out at them. Most of them fled to othr countries and hid, very few survived. Many were killed by members of angry minority groups. They were a dying party. No one cared, they caused the holocaust, they deserved it, karma killed the Nazis.

Texas has the 7th largest oil economy in the world. It's a small, rich country, with a slightly higher standard of living than America. There are 2 main parties, the Democratic Party and the Socialist Party. Texas has a very socialist government, which is responsible for the high standard of living. High taxes are the only real problem, but this is the price of socialism, and the people are willing to pay it.
It's January in Houston, Texas (The low today is 30 degrees, we're dying of cold here!)
Nothing much is happening, other then the usual war in the middle east in some country that no one has ever heard of.
This story is set in an alternate contemporary time. But things are pretty much the same as our world.  Oh yeah, and there's this Irish band called Bloody Sunday.  They've been around forever (since about 1978) and their lead singer is called The Vox...
